About Us

Geo-Spectrum Community Development (“GSCD”), is a California and Maryland Non-Profit corporation whose mission is to build strong sustainable communities through health, education, and economic development. Currently, GSCD has two main philanthropic programs, GSCD Food Pantry and Blankets4Vets.

GSCD Food Pantry is an initiative focused on providing free groceries to the underserved population that live below the poverty line in Cheverly, Maryland. GSCD partners with Capital Food Bank in the District of Columbia and engages in quarterly distribution of groceries. Prior to distribution, groceries are procured from Capital Food Bank, sorted and pre-packaged. During the distribution process participants have the opportunity to take home a bag of groceries and develop meaningful relationships with our caring volunteers. Additionally, our trained staff and volunteers provide assistance regarding any additional concerns participants may be facing and make referrals to outside community and government programs that may be helpful.

Blankets4Vets is an initiative focused on providing weighted blankets to hospital bound and in need Veterans. It was founded in memory of a Veteran of foreign war, who was a loving husband and devoted father, who passed away after a hard-fought battle with cancer. During his hospital stays, he would often request blankets for additional warmth and comfort, because hospital blankets were thin and/or in short supply. As a result, we became regular customers at the local stores purchasing blankets for him. After he passed, during our grieving and healing process, the idea for Blankets4Vets was born. Realizing other Veterans might have the same discomfort he faced, but potentially without the resources and/or support systems to assist them in gaining relief, we have committed our efforts to assisting as many Veterans as possible through the Blankets4Vets initiative.

Although our initial giving is for hospital bound and homeless Veterans with PTSD and related mental health issues,  our ultimate goal is to provide every Veteran with a weighted blanket.

Distribution of these therapeutic blankets takes place in Washington DC, Maryland, and Virginia.

Our Goals

Recognizing the needs that exist among our target population, Geo-Spectrum Community Development’s staff provides the community with a food pantry program and Blankets4Vets a blanket giving initiative. Throughout continuation of the proposed activities, our organization will address the needs of our target communities, brighten lives, and make a difference in their communities.

Together we can make it happen!
